Arms Family Museum
The former house of Wilford P. and Olive Arms, called “Greystone”, represents the best example of Arts and Crafts styling of the early twentieth century in Northeastern Ohio. Open the oak and leaded glass doors and see the historic rooms that reflect their lives and interest. Located in Youngstown’s metropolitan area, The Arms Museum is also the headquarters of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society. Austin Log Cabin
Originally owned by Calvin Austin, this authentically restored cabin dates back to 1814. Designated as a National Historic Landmark, the Cabin is an outstanding example of a frontier homestead. Today the log cabin houses period antiques, books, pictures, and furniture dating back to the early 1800s. Motorcoach parking is available and groups are welcome. Butler Institute of American Art
The Butler Institute of American Art, listed on the National Register of Historical Places, is the first structure ever built in the United States dedicated to house priceless works by American artists. Owning more than 10,000 permanent works of art (which exhibit all over the world), the Butler showcases masterpieces by Audubon, Winslow Homer, Remington, Hopper and Cassatt, to name a few. Lake Milton Scenic Cruises
Enjoy nature and history at the waters of Lake Milton and the Mahoning River on this 28 foot, 30 seat pontoon boat. Choose from two tours: The sight-seeing tour lasts one hour and circles Lake Milton; the river cruise lasts 90 minutes and heads south down Lake Milton and onto the Mahoning River. Join Captain Amodio, as she describes early Indian life on the river, and catch a glimpse of a giant blue heron on this relaxing cruise. Open May – September by appointment only. Lanterman’s Mill & Covered Bridge
Located in Mill Creek Metro Parks, Lanterman’s Mill was restored in 1982 and now operates as a fully operational gristmill, just as it did in 1846. Visitors can step back in time, hear the gentle trickle of Mill Creek as it flows toward the wheel, feel the rumbling vibrations of the stones as they whirl and grind cornmeal, buckwheat, and whole wheat flour (which can be purchased in the gift shop). The waterfall outside the mill is also visible from the scenic covered bridge just upstream. Located at Canfield Road & Old Mill Road. Mahoning County Courthouse
The Courthouse opened its bronze doors on Market Street in 1911. The granite exterior of the four-story structure features six ionic columns rising from the central pavilion to the roof, adorned with three classic statues and the words, “A Nation Cannot Outlive Justice – Where Law Ends Tyranny Begins”. The interior features a lobby, which rises four stories to a cathedral-like dome. The rotunda feeds two grand white marble staircases, which meld the diagonal line of the balustrades with the vertical and horizontal lines of the columns and cornices. Stairway landings between the third floor mezzanine and the fourth floor feature painting symbolic of agriculture and manufacturing, the predominant industries of Mahoning County at the turn of the century. McDonough Museum of Art
Located on the campus of Youngstown State University, and across from the Butler, the McDonough Museum of Art opened in 1991 and hosts rotating displays of student and faculty work, as well as temporary and touring exhibits. Mill Creek Metro Parks’ / Fellows Riverside Gardens
As a result of a generous bequest by the late Mrs. Elizabeth A. Fellows, eight acres of formal gardens have been developed. Areas of interest in the gardens include several formal rose sections, a fine collection of rhododendrons and azaleas, tulips and chrysanthemums, and extensive plantings of both annual and perennial flowers. At the opposite ends of the gardens are vistas – one overlooking the city and the other, Lake Glacier and the wooded hillsides surrounding the lake. Additional features in the Gardens include flagstone terraces, a lovely reflecting pool and fountain, and a Victorian gazebo. Guided tours are available for a minimal charge. War Vet Museum
